Lakes Union and Washington, April 2000

Here are some pictures I took on a cruise between Lake Union and Lake Washington in my Escapade pedal propelled boat.

This is heading eastward in the Ship Canal at the Montlake Cut near the University of Washington. Note the Montlake Bridge has just been opened to allow some sailboats to pass.

This is a rather striking windmill or whirligig on the shore north of the 520 bridge. The panels are mirrors, and on breezy sunny days, as this one was, they flash with extraordinary brightness as they spin about their axis.

My Escapade and my hat became something of a sight for these sightseers aboard the "Duck". This craft is an amphibious vehicle that was first used in World War II. The bridge overhead is that of the I-5 freeway as it crosses over the east arm of Lake Union.
